“Coming Alive”

By Christie Lenée

I’ve got a feeling deep inside
I’m coming
Coming alive
Deep in this body of water
There’s a tide taking me on a ride
I’m coming alive

Coming alive
I’m on a journey
I’ve set my sights out
To the open road
This is survival
Out in the wild
My greatest teacher
She lives inside
Coming alive

Out to the sunsets
Maybe I’ll find love
I can’t stop dreaming
It’s so close that I can touch
Holding my heart here
Steady my speed
There is a tide
Taking over me

Feel the light coming down from the moon
Shine on, I am ready to move
Got a feeling deep inside
I’m coming alive
To the ocean of endless dreams
Rise up – new possibilities
Keeping hope in my eyes
I’m coming alive

Won’t live in fear
I am a dreamer
Following the leader
She lives inside
I’m seeing clearly
Through all this haze
Ready to go
To the open road

Out to the sunsets
I’m wild and I’m free
There is a tide
taking over me

Feel the light coming down from the moon
Shine on I am ready to move
Got a feeling deep inside
I’m coming alive
To the ocean of endless dreams
Rise up, new possibilities
Keeping hope in my eyes
I’m coming alive

Feel the light coming down from the moon
Shine on I am ready to move
Got a feeling deep inside
I’m coming alive

Feel the light
I’m coming alive
Shine on
I feel it deep inside
In the ocean of my life
I’m gonna be alright
Feel the light
I’m coming alive
Shine on
I feel it deep inside
In the ocean of my life
I’m coming alive

SONG INFO:

“When I wrote the song ‘Coming Alive,’ I felt like a caged animal releasing myself into freedom. I’d been hibernating in a log cabin in the mountains in complete isolation during spring and summer of 2020. In that, there was a feeling of how incredible it would be to get back into the world again.

As I sang this and created the words I felt like I was able to travel inside of the song… in the music, the 12 string guitar and the melodies. While I was still in the log cabin making the first demo, which was sang right at midnight on my birthday, July 10th of 2020, something was moving within me and I felt like I was traveling inside of myself. This song helped me find something extraordinary within and I experienced a new place of self discovery. Two years later, here we are celebrating the release of the final version!!!

This is a song of getting back out into the wild. There is a sense of trusting the self that all will be well when taking massive leaps of faith, listening to the call of the soul and discovering all that you are. Can you feel it? ‘I’m coming alive… To the ocean of endless dreams.”

“That Voice”

By Christie Lenée, Marisa McKay and Bruce Michael Miller

One voice says you’ll never rise up
You might as well quit, you’ll never be enough
Stay down there crawling through the mud
That’s what one voice says

One voice says you’re looking kind of rough
Telling me I’m ugly no one’s gonna love me
It’s so hard not to listen to that stuff
That’s what one voice says

But I know I am beautiful
I am wise and powerful
I can do anything, I can do anything
I know who I am
I’m not listening, I’m not listening
I’m not listening
To that voice

One voice says you’ll never get a shot
You’ll never get a break, you’re never going to make it
What it takes, you ain’t got
That’s what one voice says

But I know I am beautiful
I am wise and powerful
I can do anything, I can do anything
I know who I am
I’m not listening, I’m not listening
I’m not listening
To that voice

(I’m not listening)
(I’m not listening)

I know I am beautiful
I am wise and powerful
I can do anything, I can do anything
I know who I am
And I hear the song of who I am
I am strong
Here where I stand
I can do anything, I can do anything
I know who I am
I’m not listening, I’m not listening
I’m strong where I stand
I can do anything, I can do anything
I know who I am
I’m not listening, I’m not listening
I’m not listening
To that voice

SONG INFO:

“I met 16 year old singer/songwriter prodigy Marisa McKaye at a songwriting camp in Nashville. After being blown away by her talent, I asked if she would be willing to set up a writing session. Once she said yes we brought in Bruce Michael Miller, an extremely seasoned writer to join us for a triple threat writing session.

In the session, we spoke about this mutual (and I might I say, universal) feeling of having a voice of self doubt in our heads. We spoke about how disempowering it can be to follow the train of self sabotaging thoughts, and we decided to stand up to that voice inside of the song.

In the lyrics, the Verse voice (aka the self sabotaging voice) is juxtaposed with the positive affirmation voice that comes in at the chorus: I know I am beautiful, I am wise and powerful, I can do anything…’

Through this lens, ‘That Voice’ became a self empowerment anthem about breaking past limiting beliefs. Marisa McKaye provided some heartfelt vocal ad libs on the recording, which depicted the sound of two voices which one might hear inside a mind of confusion and self doubt. Her additional voice is intended to emphasize the affirmation statement confirmed at the end of every chorus: “I’m not listening, I’m not listening, I’m not listening… to that voice.”

I will be forever grateful for this extremely impactful writing session, which naturally led to be the first single of this new album.”

“Wildfire”

By Christie Lenée

There’s a wildfire
Running through my veins
The earth seems to slow down
Crying for the rain
Where have you gone my friend,
Are you safe across the land
In this wildfire?

When you’ve lost everything,
Everything that you know
When you’ve lost every piece,
Every piece that you own
There’s an emptiness inside
And there’s no place to hide
In this wildfire

Burning in the wind
There’s a wildfire
Running through my veins
There’s a wildfire
I’m calling on the rain

These flames grow wide
Across the border lines
Can we stand up now?
I believe there’s still time
I reach for your hand
Across the great divide
We lean on each other
to survive

Burning in the wind
There’s a wildfire
Running through my veins
It’s spreading wider
I’m calling on the rain

Heart aches
Heart breaks
Fall down
Stand up
Deep breaths
Slow steps
Come together
Don’t give up,
Don’t give up now

Burning in the wind
There’s a wildfire
Running through my veins
It’s spreading wider
Can it be contained?
It’s a wild
It’s a wild
It’s a wild fire
Fire…
It’s a wild
It’s a wild
I’m calling on the rain

These flames grow wide
Across the border lines
We lean on each other
to survive
The wildfire
Wildfire

——

SONG INFO:

“This song was originally written about Wildfires spreading across California. Among the spread of Covid 19 and many rapid changes across the world, ‘Wildfire’ soon became metaphoric to both the internal and external wildfires across the nation. It’s the spread of grief through our universal hearts, the spread of the virus, and of course the literal fires spreading across the land.

In the song, I was thinking about how in times of tragedy it is most important for us to stand together, be together and help each other through it. ‘We lean on each other to survive… the Wildfire.” ~ Christie Lenée

“Free World Citizen”

By Christie Lenée and Rick Price

I’m a passenger on planet earth
I belong to the universe
Got a body made of flesh and bone
Got a pass and I’m free to roam
Climb the stairs,
Make my way to the stars above
I’m a member
In the state of love

I’m moving at the speed of light
Got a ticket to paradise
All along these heavenly streets
See your light shining back at me
All my brothers and sisters gathered here
My heart is open
And my mind is clear

I’m one of seven billion
Pretty white lights here spinning
Moving in circles ’round the sun
I am the sea, the mountain
I am the here, the now and
I’m in every grain of sand
I am
A free world citizen

(Free World Citizen)

I’m a passenger on planet earth
I belong to the universe
Got a body made of flesh and bone
Got a pass and I’m free to roam
Climb the stairs,
Make my way to the stars above
I’m a senator
In the state of love

I’m one of seven billion
Pretty white lights here spinning
Moving in circles ’round the sun
I am the sea, the mountain
I am the here, the now and
I’m in every grain of sand
I am
A free world citizen

(Free World Citizen)

In a world without borders
Breaking through law and order
I am a woman in a free land
I’m more than just human

I’m one of seven billion
Pretty white lights here spinning
Moving in circles ’round the sun
I am the sea, the mountain
I am the here, the now and
I’m in every grain of sand
I am
A free world citizen

(Solo)

I’m one of seven billion
Pretty white lights here spinning
Moving in circles ’round the sun
I am the sea, the mountain
I am the here, the now and
I’m in every grain of sand
I am
A free world citizen

Free World Citizen
(Oh yes I am)
A free world Citizens
I’m in every grain of sand
I’m one
of seven billion
All the bright pretty lights here spinning
I’m one
of seven billion
Got a ticket to paradise land
I’m one of seven billion
I am that I am
A free world citizen

SONG INFO:

“‘Free World Citizen’ is a song about belonging not just to one place, but belonging to everywhere. I wrote this song with one of my favorite artists on this planet, Australian Pop Star and divine human being Rick Price. In the writing session, we wanted to create a song that was memorable and universal to the experience of being a free spirit on this planet.

While this song was recorded a few years ago, the tune has naturally evolved over years of performing it. This has become a crowd favorite, so I wanted to create a fresh version that includes the guitar solo and more of a live energy feel.

Here is to getting back to traveling again, singing and jamming to this song with you at more shows… CHEERS Free World Citizens!” 🙂 ~ Christie Lenée

“Fly Away” (Falling)

By Christie Lenée, Dani Shay and Lily Mae Harrington

Feels like I’m on the edge
The greatest dive of my life
Leap right off a this cliff and
Fly away

Or I could crash and burn
If I don’t land in your arms
Will you go
or will you stay?

Anticipating every move you make
Intoxicated by your touch
(By your touch, by your touch)
I’m hesitating cause my heart could break
Let it hit the ground,
Cause I’m coming down

I’m Falling…
Falling…

Reaching for you
Underneath the water
Wish you’d pull me
Outta the blue and up for air

Anticipating every move you make
Intoxicated by your touch
(By your touch, by your touch)
I’m hesitating cause my heart could break
Let it hit the ground,
Cause I’m coming down

I’m falling…
Falling…
Fall…

What if I don’t ever get up?
Can I ever give you enough?
Are we even really in love?
Will we hit the ground,
Cause we’re coming down…

I’m falling
Falling…
(Fly away)
Falling …
(Fly away)
Fall —

Don’t know how long this will last
Let’s take a chance, let’s
Leap right off a this cliff and fly away
(Leap right off a this cliff and fly away )
Leap right off a this cliff and fly away
(Fall)…..
Leap right off a this cliff and fly away
(Fall)….
Leap right off a this cliff and fly away
(Fall)……
Fly Away
(Fly Away)…
Fly Away
(Fly Away)….
Fly Away

SONG INFO:

“In the middle of a tour in Los Angeles I had a dream about this guitar riff and melody. I happened to be staying in the home of the well respected songwriters/artists Dani Shay and Lily Mae Harrington, two very dear friends. The 3 of us had never written together, but I brought the idea to them. Within moments together the song took shape and it nearly wrote itself!

Dani said it sounded like a song about falling in love so we ran with it. Between the 3 of us singing and creating, the extraordinary voices of these two other beautiful souls, and the profoundly brilliant artistry that was radiating in one room, the vocals and BGVs of this song are intended to honor the feeling of the original writing session.” ~ Christie Lenée

“Window Panes”

By Christie Lenée

Flowers open up as the bee lands
And butterflies emerge in the seasons
I open up my shades
So I can see
Summer shifts and sways
So do we

Children are playing in the field of dreams
Chasing their joy with a smile
We need each other for a mirror of grace
Just like the flowers need the rain
I’ve been watching…
Have you been watching
Through the window panes?
Get out in the field and play

No cloud in the sky
As the sun beams down
Streaming through the glass
Rainbows on the ground

Children are playing in the field of dreams
Chasing their joy with a smile
We need each other for a mirror of grace
Just like the flowers need the rain
Iʼve been watching…
Have you been watching
through the window panes?
Get out in the field and play

Inside these walls feeling lost in my heart
I’m spinning through this warp in time
Open the window there’s a world outside
And we need each other to shine

Children are playing in the field of dreams
Chasing their joy with a smile
We need each other for a mirror of grace
Just like the flowers need the rain
I’ve been watching….
Have you been watching?
I’ve been watching
through the window panes
Get out in the field and play
Get out in the field and play

SONG INFO:

“When I moved into my new home in Asheville, my neighbor Bill recited a beautiful poem to me. I remember the image of a bee landing on a window pane. He then said something profound to me:
‘I wondered when I heard that poem, what is my window pane?’
With curiosity, I responded… ‘What do you mean by that Bill?’

His answer was profound: ‘My window pane… the pane of glass that’s blocking me from all of the things I want to get to in my life. What is my window pane?’

I found this to be a beautiful image and asked Bill if I could use it for a song. It felt like the perfect image to symbolize lockdown during Covid, and how it felt to look out at the world from inside.

This is certainly one of my favorite songs on the album and like nothing I’ve ever written. Enjoy!” 🙂 ~ Christie Lenée

“Another Day Goes By”

By Christie Lenée

If I had one day to live
I’d give all I can give
But when I think there’s so much time
I let another day go by

Ohhh…
Another day goes by
Can’t let another day go by

Not a day not a day
Not a day not a day
Not a day not a day

If I had one song to sing
I’d make the song say everything
But when I think there’s a whole lifetime
I let another day go by

Another day goes by
Another day goes by
Can’t let another day go by

Not a day not a day
Not a day not a day
Not a day not a day

Living a life with a conscious call
Only love or there is nothing at all
Here I choose where to spend my time
Blissful moments and a heart that shines

If I had just one more chance
I’d move my feet to a joyful dance
It’s when I there’s so much time
I let another day go by

Another day goes by
Another day goes by
Can’t let another day go by

Not a day not a day
Not a day not a day
Not a day not a day

Not a day, not a day goes by
Not a day, not a day goes by
Not a day, not a day goes by
Can’t let another day go bye

SONG INFO:

“After watching the movie “Clouds” I was inspired to write this song. In that, the 16 year old protagonist was told that he had terminal cancer and he only had 6 months to live.

I wondered what it would be like if someone told me I only had 6 months to live… how would I spend my days? Further, what if I indeed only had 6 months to live, yet nobody ever told me? This concept was inspiration to narrow it down to each single day. I want to live each day to the fullest no matter what… hence the affirmation mantra: ‘not a day, not a day goes by’!

Musical Fact: Musicians might find joy in trying to track the unusual yet fluent rhythmic meter of this song. Special guest performer Jeff Coffin, saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band really brought the horn melodies to life on this instrumental section. I’m grateful for this band too… they really nailed something which could have sounded very mathematical, and instead it evolved just as I imagined it: into a beautiful and fluent composition.” ~ Christie Lenée

“The Victory We’ve Won”

By Christie Lenée

How could I have known we’d be here now?
With love so pure I’m healed somehow…

I watch you sleeping like an angel
Love, so pure and innocent
Softest smile on your dreaming gaze
Pause, in silence I’m amazed

Your breath is calming like my own
Warm under covers this is home
And two hearts at peace
Is the essence of good living
Love is the gift that keeps on giving

So let me hold you when it hurts
Let me be your place to land
I’ll offer you my tender healing hand
When the days run long
And not everything gets done
Remember all the victories we’ve won

Let us start with love…
Love is the victory we’ve won

Your eyelashes shimmer in the ember light
Must be a dream, a pure surprise
Himalayan crystals wrap your soul in white
We are glowing orange from the inside

Your breath is calming like my own
Warm under covers this is home
And your skin as smooth as this pink rose
Petals in full bloom with tips of gold

How could I have known we’d be here now
With love so pure I’m healed somehow
When the days run long
And not everything gets done
Remember all the victories we’ve won

Let us start with love…
Love is the victory we’ve won

So let me hold you when it hurts
Let me be your place to land
I’ll offer you my tender healing hand
When the days run long
And not everything gets done
Remember all the victories we’ve won

Let us start with love…
Love is the victory we’ve won
(Oh) Look how far we’ve come
Love is the victory we’ve won

Love is the victory we’ve won
Love is the victory we’ve won

SONG INFO:

“I wrote this song for the love of my life Laura, one night while she was sleeping. She looked so angelic and peaceful laying there and it was a moment of being reminded of what’s really important in life. In all the days when we’ve thought about how much we’ve accomplished, or what we didn’t get checked off the to-do list, watching her in complete peace that night showed me that at some point, none of that ‘doing’ really matters. So long as we have loved fully, then the day has been a victory. ‘Love is the victory we’ve won.’ 🙂

It was a joy to have one of my best friends, Ashleigh Britton Addison join me to make this song into a vocal duet. This brought the musical imagery of love and intimacy into something audible with counterpoint harmonies moving throughout the song.

Tracking this live with Ashleigh’s angelic voice really helped me to tap into a space of my singing that I have yet to hear on another recording. Of course, the subject matter and heart behind the song also helped me to reel in vocal ‘power” and substitute it for something soft and sweet. I wanted to sing to Laura as if she was still sleeping there… at times, it’s almost a whisper.

Jonathan Yudkin was also extremely wonderful to listen to a 15 minute voice memo I sent him across email. In that, I was singing him all of the string parts that were in my head, explaining where I heard them placed and how I imagined them weaving throughout the vocals.

When he sent back his string recordings I burst into tears… it was everything I ever dreamed of, and while my darling Laura once said this song dropped in from the angels, I think those strings, Joe’s piano, and the second vocal part brought the recording to another spiritual dimension. The layers and elements remained true to the essential song that was originally channeled. It’s so beautiful.” ~ Christie Lenée

“Beautiful Ride”

By Christie Lenée and Rick Price

Hey Mother Earth
I’m writing you a love letter
I just want to say
Thank you for the way
You take my breath away

Your tall green trees
Swaying in the soft summer breeze
Flowers in bloom, your sweet perfume
I’m so in love with you

Revolving us around the sun
Shine a golden light on everyone
The moon and stars delight to guide your way

Hey ohhh eh oh eh oh
Hey ohhh eh
Hey ohhh eh
It’s a beautiful ride
Beautiful ride

Hey Mother Earth
I’m writing you a love letter
I just want to say
Thank you for the way
You bless me every day

Your healing powers
Every minute, every hour
Feel it all around
Love pouring down
I’m standing on sacred ground

As I sail upon your seven seas
Your waves rise up to carry me
As I ride the tides and wash my fears away

Hey ohhh eh oh eh oh
Hey ohhh eh
Hey ohhh eh
It’s a beautiful ride
Hey ohhh eh oh eh oh
Hey ohhh eh
Hey ohhh eh
It’s a beautiful ride
Beautiful ride

Revolving us around the sun
Shine a golden light on everyone
Create an amazing birth of a brand new day

Hey ohhh eh oh eh oh
Hey ohhh eh
Hey ohhh eh
It’s a beautiful ride
Hey ohhh …
(Shine a golden light)
Hey ohhh …
(Revolve around the sun)
Hey ohhh eh
It’s a beautiful ride
(It’s a brand new day)
Hey ohhh …
(Shine a golden light)
Hey ohhh …
(Revolve around the sun)
Hey ohhh eh
It’s a beautiful ride
Hey ohhh
(Shine a golden light)
Hey ohhh …
(Revolve around the sun)
Hey ohhh eh
It’s a beautiful ride
Beautiful ride
Beautiful ride
It’s a beautiful ride

Beautiful ride

SONG INFO:

“At the height of shutdown in the pandemic, Rick Price and I got together for a writing session on zoom. The night before I’d written several potential titles we could work from, and one of them was “Love Letter to Mother Earth.” An hour before the writing session I went for a hike in the woods and the guitar riff came to me. I sang the original melodies and guitar part into a voice memo on my iPhone so I didn’t forget, then ran home quickly so I could figure out how to play them before the writing session.

Rick loved the idea, and especially latched onto ‘Love Letter to Mother Earth’ for a title. We ran with that title for several days after the writing session until ‘Beautiful Ride’ became the tag line. It was the perfect wrap for everything we wanted to say.

In the music, I’d originally written the guitar part in 7/4. Rick expressed that he didn’t want to write in an odd time, so we compromised to keep the instrumental parts in 7/4, but land into 4/4 during the parts where vocals come in.

Here is yet another pandemic song, which is extremely honorary to our sweet mother earth. I hope ‘Beautiful Ride’ becomes a theme song for earth day!” 🙂 ~ Christie Lenée

“Daylight Comes”

By Christie Lenée

Take your first step
Daylight Comes
You awaken
Yesterday is gone
Take your first breath
Daylight Comes

And I say my friend,
The sky is clear
Snow is melted
Spring is here
And step outside now
Surprises wait for you

You’ve seen cold nights
With no one else in sight
When darkness turns
You’ll come out the other side
When it feels so hard
Don’t let it take you down
Shake it off, get up again
Move on up the sun is rising

Daylight Comes, Daylight Comes
Daylight Comes, Daylight Comes
Move on up, move on up
Feel the sun rise
Daylight Comes

(Daylight)

Change in seasons
Lilacs bloom
And in your heart
Love is renewed
And I say my friend
Get up and try again

You’ve seen cold nights
With no one else in sight
When darkness turns
You’ll come out the other side
When it feels too hard
Don’t let it take you down
Shake it off, get up again
Move on up the sun is rising

Daylight Comes, Daylight Comes
Daylight Comes, Daylight Comes
Move on up, move on up
Feel the sun rise
Daylight Comes

(Guitar Solo)
(Feel the daylight come)

Daylight Comes, Daylight Comes
Daylight Comes, Daylight Comes
Move on up, move on up
Feel the sun rise
Daylight Comes
We’ll come out the other side
(Come into the daylight)

Shake it off, shake it off
(Shake it off, come into the daylight)
Shake it off get up again
(Shake it off, come into the daylight)
Shake it off, shake it off
(Shake it off, come into the daylight)
Shake it off get up again
(Shake it off, come into the daylight)
Move on up, move on up
(Shake it off … to the daylight)
Feel the sun rise
(Come into the daylight)
Daylight comes
(Shake it off, come into the daylight)
Daylight Comes
(Come into the daylight)
Daylight Comes

(Daylight)

SONG INFO:

“‘Daylight Comes’ is a song I wrote with intention to be reminded of something important: every single day we have the opportunity to start again. What can we let go from the past, and how can we create something new?

With this intention converted into music, I’ve layered many elements of guitars and vocals in this song. The electric guitar solo is following by an uplifting key change for the last chorus, symbolizing a musical sensation of how it feels to get up again.

The ending African style vocal chant, “shake it off, come into the daylight” was written with intention to be sang by audiences at live shows with hand clapping and crowd interplay. It is intended to get YOU and our brothers and sisters singing at future concerts, likewise I brought in two actual sisters for the recording, Clarissa and Cristalyn Stokes of “Soul Sister Presents”! The girls filled out the vocal elements to create the chorus-like ensemble that I envisioned. I surely look forward to looping the chant over and over with your voices at future shows!

Please learn the end chant now so we can get ready to sing it together – cheers!” 🙂
